The Southern Ardèche by MTB is a ride both starting and finishing on the limestone plateaux of the woodlands of the Bois de Païolive.

The first peaks of the Cévennes are already visible from here and the tracks of the imposing Tanargue mountain range come into view as we head through the maze of low stone walls and paths left over from the region’s long-forgotten farming past. Speeding along high above the valley floor, we ride along ridgetops, enjoying clear views over the stunning landscapes across the Ardèche Mountains Regional Nature Reserve, well worthy of its Geopark status. Successively crossing the cliffs of the Vivarais region, chestnut and olive groves, then the Gras plateau, the smells of forests and the southern heathlands fill our nostrils.

It all comes to a sumptuous conclusion in the Ardèche River Gorges natural reserve as we come face to face with the famous rock arch of the Pont d’Arc.
